One of the busiest programs in the city, we perform approximately 400 cases per year. The Center was recently recertified as a Center of Excellence by the American College of Surgeons level 1A and was selected as one of only five centers designated by New York State for the surgical treatment of obesity.
The Center received HealthGrades highest award for lowest morbidity and mortality in the region.
A multi-disciplinary team that includes Nurses, Nutritionists and Health Psychologists create a comprehensive program and has developed an extensive education program that maximizes the potential of our patients.

The Division offers expertise in foregut surgery and offers the most advanced methods in treating gastroesophageal reflux disease, hernias of the diaphragm and benign and malignant diseases of the esophagus and stomach.
Our surgeons have extensive experience also with problems of the pancreas and adrenal glands and employ the most advanced techniques in laparoscopy.
A surgical oncology program is also available in collaboration with the Division of surgical oncology and thoracic surgery to offer minimally invasive techniques when appropriate to treat tumors of the esophagus, stomach and pancreas.
Robotic surgery has a strong interest and support within the Division. Several clinical collaborations with Thoracic surgery exist with extensive clinical applications and an active research program
Our surgeons are trained in flexible endoscopy and able to offer an array of advanced techniques to treat endoluminal problems and manage postoperative complications. This clinical program offers an important clinical experience for surgery and fellows
