Division of Vascular SurgeryThe Vascular Surgery Service at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center provides innovative and technologically advanced vascular therapies. The vascular team performs more than 1000 vascular surgical procedures annually. The combined clinical experience of the vascular surgical staff exceeds more than 100 years. Most of our vascular team surgeons have been included in listings of the "Top Doctors in America " and the "Best Doctors in New York ". The vascular surgeons collaborate closely with the interventional radiology group. The full array of vascular treatment options are performed on a regular basis including:
Non-invasive vascular laboratories (certified by the Intersocietal Commission on the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories) provide diagnostic testing at both the Roosevelt and St. Luke's sites. Each laboratory has the most advanced equipment for diagnostic studies. More than 4000 tests are performed annually. A clinical trials program was recently instituted within the Division of Vascular Surgery to investigate new clinical treatment options in collaboration with industry representatives. A vascular medicine basic science laboratory is actively investigating etiological factors implicated in the development of aneurysmal diseases. A Division of Vascular Surgery Teaching Conference is held each week with full participation of the resident and attending staff. There is more than ample clinical material to support the training of our residents as well as a vascular surgery fellow. Nevertheless, it has been our position that the vascular surgery program is so valuable to our general surgery residents that we do not want to change the format of this popular rotation by instituting a fellowship program. One of the great strengths of the general surgery residency at SLR has always been an emphasis on the residents rather than fellowship training. Four of our graduating residents have pursued fellowship training in vascular surgery during the past four years.
